Salman Ezzammoury (Tetouan, Morocco, 1959) is a Dutch visual artist who has lived and worked in the Netherlands since the early 1980s. His artistic journey began as a writer and poet in his native language, Arabic. After settling in the Netherlands, he searched for a new way to connect with his surroundings and communicate with people. That search led him to photography—a universal visual language through which stories can be told beyond words and cultural boundaries.

Today, his multidisciplinary practice encompasses photography, painting, mixed media, digital art, and artworks created with the support of artificial intelligence (AI). With more than four decades of artistic experience, he has developed a distinctive visual language in which memory, identity, human connection, and cultural diversity are recurring themes.

His education in photography at the School of Photography in Apeldoorn, combined with his studies in graphic techniques in Utrecht and numerous courses in drawing and painting, provided the technical foundation for his artistic practice. From the very beginning, he sought to dissolve the boundaries between photography and the visual arts. For Salman, a photograph is never the final destination but the starting point of a creative process where observation, imagination, and emotion come together.

People are at the heart of his work. Faces, expressions, and gestures serve as the starting point for artworks that go beyond realistic representation. By combining photography with painterly techniques, digital image manipulation, and mixed media, he creates works in which reality and imagination merge. Rather than pursuing physical resemblance, he seeks to reveal the emotional depth and human essence of his subjects.

Travel has become an essential source of inspiration throughout his artistic career. New cultures, landscapes, and encounters continually enrich his work and give rise to new series. During his journeys, he photographs people, cities, and everyday moments that later evolve into autonomous works of art. A recent example is Faces of the Women’s Market, Sofia – Bulgaria, a series in which the faces and stories of market visitors and vendors are transformed into poetic visual interpretations celebrating dignity, diversity, and everyday life.

Alongside this project, he is currently developing Radiance Within – 100 Portraits, an ongoing series of one hundred unique portraits. The project is a visual journey through faces, memories, dreams, and human expression. By exploring a wide range of techniques, colours, and atmospheres, he investigates the richness of human identity and the quiet power of inner radiance.

Throughout the years, Salman Ezzammoury has continuously embraced innovation while remaining true to his artistic vision. He sees digital technology and artificial intelligence not as ends in themselves, but as creative tools that open new possibilities for expressing stories, memories, and emotions.

Since 1987, Salman Ezzammoury has participated in nearly five hundred exhibitions and art projects in the Netherlands and abroad. His work is represented in private and public collections and is regularly exhibited at national and international exhibitions.

For Salman, art is far more than a visual experience. It is a universal language that connects people, transcends cultural boundaries, and encourages dialogue, understanding, and human connection. His oeuvre reflects a profound belief in the power of art to bring people together and to contribute to a world built on dignity, peace, and cultural exchange.
